PROBLEMS OF SKIN AGING

Beauty begins with a healthy body and healthy skin
Many factors play a part in our well-being and our personality: living conditions, diet and environmental impacts have a decisive effect on the state and the aging process of our skin. How long our skin remains young and attractive is decided inside each and every cell. With increased age, the cells' ability to renew themselves decreases. The skin-aging process commences at just 25. It has been scientifically proven that the speed and the extent of the aging of the skin can be attributed mainly to external environmental impacts and our habits (UV rays, smoking, sleep deficit, stress, an unhealthy diet).

Our skin is the mirror image of our state of health and well-being
Both hormones and the genetic control of the cells slow down cell regeneration and, with it, the formation of enzymes and cell products such as collagen and hyaluronic acid. The concentration of hyaluronic acid constantly diminishes, which means that the skin's ability to bind water also decreases. Hyaluronic acid is further responsible for the removal of harmful metabolism products and has an anti-oxidative effect. With increasing age, however, the production of sebum and perspiration essential to the skin's protective layer decreases, which results in dry, low-moisture skin more susceptible to external environmental impacts.

The reduced formation of anti-oxidative enzymes in the cell means that the skin has less protection against free radicals. The destruction of the elastic and collagenous fibres by increased oxidation not only affects the skin's elasticity: it also affects the thickness of the individual layers of skin which make up the epidermis (in this case, particulary the prickle cell layer) and the dermis. The elastic fibres lose their restoring force, resulting in the skin's reduced ability to stretch and compress. Initially, fine lines are formed in areas of the skin subject to strong facial expressions: over time, these fine lines develop into wrinkles. The diminishing elasticity of the fine vessels in the subcutaneous fatty tissue causes them to increase, and become visible through the increasingly thinner skin.
